Release Management

Release Management is a combination of multiple disciplines, includes Build Management, Package Management and Releasing of the product. A typical Software Release follows a numbering scheme of Major.Minor.Maintenance.Patch (ex: 1.0.2.4)

A Release Manager (RM) is responsible for overall release of a product. RM interacts with all the groups; Development, Build Engineering, QA group, Documentation and Support.

Release Management also addresses Patch Management, Upgrade Compatibility, Release Notes. It needs to keep track of the new features in a Release and also the Defects fixed in the earlier releases.
